CROCODILE ON THE SANDBANK by ELIZABETH PETERS

I was surprised at how young the narrator [author:Susan O'Malley|1361285] was when she recorded this because she did really well with a middle aged woman (in her 30s - which I consider extremely young). The story itself was not my favorite. The main character Amelia thinks that because she would find it fascinating, she should bring along scalpels and blades to cut off a limb if necessary. The prejudice for “ignorant” locals who supposedly have no appreciation for their country’s treasures was ridiculous too. I don’t know if the author wanted to make sure that the characters sounded as if they were really from that time but it was definitely off-putting. And the romance(?) of the main character, ugh. I can see being a little standoffish but they were saying sometimes really cruel things, at least the male love interest was. I’m in the minority here because it seems everybody else liked it. 2 stars.
